Mike Griffith's conversations

I uploaded small sized photos because I don't want people using them for commercial purposes without my permission. All of my French Polynesia photos were taken as 35mm Slides and scanned with a Nikon Coolscan III at 2700 DPI and are suitable for up to 16x20 prints.

It is a really gorgeous place

Luis,

If you are in Mexico, the cost goes from $9,500 (USD DOLLARS) for two adults in a package (hotel + transportation), no meals are included:

The hammock awaits! Behind beach bungalow 4, Kia Ora Village, Rangiroa.

View from the hammock, Kia Ora Village beach bungalow 4. How many palm trees do you see?

Beach bungalow at Kia Ora Sauvage, Rangiroa, French Polynesia. The only milled lumber used in its construction are the floorboards. There is no electricity on the motu. Fresh water is provided by a propane fueled osmosis plant. We spent two nights here in September 2003 and wished we had stayed for at least five. The weather was lovely and there are no mosquitoes this time of year.

Water lily in garden pond at Bora Bora Lagoon Resort.

Tahitian pearl oyster with a black pearl just left of center. The pearl seed and a small slice of mantle (the black lip at edge of shell) from a 1 year-old donor oyster are surgically implanted inside the gonad of a 3 year-old oyster. If this graft succeeds, the mantle will secrete nacre, which will coat the seed. Tahitian law requires a 1mm layer of nacre for the pearl to be sold, and this takes anywhere from 12-18 months to form. Oysters can grow as many as three pearls in succession before they get too old and exhausted, at which time their shells are harvested for mother of pearl.
