Central Barque Shrine - Built by Thutmose III - Modified by Philip Arrhidaeus

There seems to have been a bit of doubt as to when this pic was taken on various local history forums. The confusion seems to be caused by the chimney top right in this photo.. That chimney is not the power station chimney but MAY or may not be that of the old Flynn and Sons dye factory situated on the northern side of the A259 coast road some way to the east of the power station. The Power station is out of shot to the right. I can absolutely guarantee the date of this photograph as I took it myself, I thought it was interesting to document the crowds as well as the chimney demolition.

Hello Panoramiopix, Howard Carter did write something’s about these wadis in JEA 4 from 1916 page 107 till 118. Also Elizabeth Thomas is talking about these wadis in The Royal Necropoleis of Thebes from 1966. If you want I could send you the map by mail? werkgroep21dyna@hotmail.com. We are a working group who are investigating al the wadis for graffiti of the 21 Dynasty. The website is mine and we are still working on this site, that’s why there is a password on it. Do you have a lot of pictures of the wadis and maybe also of the graffiti? And when was you there? Greetings from Huibert van Verseveld.

panoramiopix: This is a famous tomb. It was created about 1000 B.C. by priests to protect the remains of many pharaohs. It was re-discovered by the Abd el Rassoul family in 1870 and mined for artifacts which were sold on the antiquities black market. After 10 years Egyptian officials found out who'd been selling the artifacts and "prevailed" on them to disclose the source. The tomb was unscientifically cleaned out in 1881 and then re-excavated in 1998.

The owner of the Marsam Hotel, nearby, is a descendant of the Abd el Rassoul family and is still waging a campaign in the European press to clear the family's name.
