A chilly but gorgeous swimming hole!!!

The "Cesspool" is an awesome swimming hole, mostly known only to kayakers and Greenstone fossickers.

Take a short walk upstream and the views get even better than the helicopter area, with far fewer people around.

Rare Okarito White Herons seem to love the upper Whataroa River. Take a walk upstream for a bit and have a look. Very few people do.

Hope you brought a sunny day with you, as this view is my favorite of anywhere on the West Coast. This photo only takes in half of the magnificent 360 degrees!!!!

This Hendes Galley is one of the most interesting track-building feats I witnessed on the entire South Island.

The roadside viewpoint on the "Chalet track" road (south side of glacial Valley) is the best place to see both the lower and upper portions of the Fox Glacier.

Cruise by, stop car, stack rocks....adios West Coast (of Hello West Coast!!)

At lower tides you can sneak around Monro Beach's headland to explore this much-longer northern neighbor.

The ruins of Watson's Mill make a great turn-around spot for the day walk up Charming Creek. Above this site the track is less scenic with less historic ruins.
