The Galleria is a huge landmark for the people of Metairie, La. This was the condition of the Galleria 2 weeks after hurricane Katrina. Besides a few other such landmarks around the area, this particular one hit home the destruction we went through.
Also, this area was the staging point for rescue operations of helicopters and busses coming out of New Orleans. Just on the other side of the Galleria is that stretch of Interstate-10 that many saw on national news reports on TV.
