My husband was stationed in Baumholder in the late 70's and we lived in Frauenberg and used to walk to the "watchtower", as we called it, and picnic with our son. It is an awesome place.
This place is unbelieveable. The area is called SUPLJA STINA and there are more than 120 climbing routes, well bolted, grades from 5a to 8a. Climbers must check this out, I can't rave about this enough! Heres the website.

There is a plaque at the base of the castle that reads: "TAL FRAUENBERG Hier lag einst die stadt tal Frauenberg, die wohl mit der errichtung der Frauenburg kurz vor 1330 enstand und bereits 1332 stadtrechte erhielt. AM 29.6.1761 wurde sie durch ein hochwasser zerstört und nicht mehr aufgebaut. Die bewhner gründeten unmittelbar danach auf sicherer höhe die beiden neuen dörfer sonnenburg und (neu-) Frauenburg. LANDKREIS BIRKENFELD 2000"
