This rip rap structure is named, The Long Point Dike. In the next year or two the Corps of Engineers will be building a notch in the dike with a pedestrian bridge spanning the notch. The notch will let large fish species into the salt marsh wetlands located on the landward of the dike. This will also promote restoration of tidal influences in the salt marsh areas.
