Hey Tom, Yes, you have my permission for personal use with photo. credit if published. Sorry I don't have any of that PBY. The last pictures I found from Canton on the web, a few years ago, the flag plate was gone! As with every thing else of any salvage value. These picture are all that remain. I was working with a group on a project to bring Eco-tourism to the island, but it didn't work out. The population of Kiribati is looking for a place to live because of sea level rise. I have some other pictures you may be interested in I have not posted. Good to hear from you.
I was there in 63 with Bendix and Jeff Burris. Off to the left on the
Lagoon side was FAA dependent housing. Off to the left those Quonset
huts was the Island store that was run for profit to supply the Island
children with books, paper and pencils. If my memory serves correct,
you could get a bottle of B & B for $3.00 US.
Jburris1940 ! Would that be Jeff Burris that worked with Sonny
Wagner (KB6CQ) back in 1963 ?? I was just going thru some pics of
the Mercury site and our living quarters. Sure would like to hear from
you or any of the other Bendix people.
Aras Mardosa's conversations
Great pics
Great seeing these islands up close

Jimmy-What was Charlie's (at the MIPIR) last name. He pitched over way out towards A-site and was a long time before rescue.
It was forbidden to dive on this wreak. But I think maybe some members of the dive club did.
A-site radar techs drove this regularly. Nesting sea turtles encountered frequently.
Fred Campbell and Charlie Dog's pack. That's probably Tommy Oliver with them.
