ELEVATORS: QUICKLY ON THE WAY
In early 1996, the lifts were replaced. The new lifts make the ascend to the observation deck in just 40 seconds which is two seconds faster than their predecessors.
Both high-speed elevators move at speed of 6 m per second up to the observation floor. Each elevator can carry up to 15 passengers.
WIND LOAD: HE DOES MOVE, BUT ONLY SLIGHTLY
Many visitors wonder about how much the wind can bring the tower to vibrate. In fact, the pendulum movements of the tower are barely noticeable. The deflection of the tip of the antenna is approximately 60 cm, and at the height of the tower cafe only about 15 cm. The frequency of the vibration lies between 7 to 10 seconds.
The low rate of vibrations is achieved, through a Tilgerpendel. It consists of a 1.5-ton metal rod suspended from three steel ropes, and transfers its momentum to four hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers.
ANTENNAS: TRANSMITTING THOUGH MANY CHANNELS
The red and white antenna marks the end of the TV tower. The mast is 118 meters high, giving the TV tower its total height of 368 m.
The visible antenna mast is only the most visible part of the transmission facilities. Over the various antennas of the television tower, more than 60 radio and television programs are broadcasted. A minority of radio programs will be broadcast in analogue, the other programs are broadcast digitally.
