Viktor Macha's conversations

Nah, it is an international architecture workshop that tries to find solutions for reusing the Petrila mine as something else, like the germans did with the Zollverein mine for example. Last year i went to the first phase, where a more general strategy was elaborated for the city and the whole area, and this phase will focus more on the mine itself and on what can be done to keep it as a monument/museum/community centre/you name it. The workshop is aimed at architects and architecture students, but not exclusively. I can only hope that what we will think up will at least be considered by the local authorities, as an alternative to tearing it all down. The mining company was very open about this, the director of the Petrila mine is directly involved, he worked at the mine for his entire life and wants to save the place.

Thank you, Milos! Merry Christmas and Industrial New Year 2013 to you!

Yes, all melt shops (3) are active, only two or three furnaces are relined now.

common, this blast furnace was refurbished in 1963 - typical soviet style design. The works were founded in 1771, not this single blast furnace.
