Hi Ralph, I have also done the Whale Trail and your photo brings back very good memories of our walk! From your pictures I derive that you are an outdoor person and "trailer" par exellance! I started in the Nature Reserve, then through the neck to the north side. There's a Google Earth track of the route here

Thanks. Enter Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, take the road up to where it crosses the river and loops back, take the leftmost trail to Bergriviersnek - about a 2-hour hike to the saddle from the start of the trail.

I camped here once, way back when. A group of us as boy scouts came out here on an overnight hike, and slept at junction pools. There used to be this wood skeletoned, grass roofed hut built here, and on that night, an accident with a candle that fell over, resulted in us all spending the rest of the night putting out what could have been a very large bush fire...
