In the centre of the high alter is an 18 year old Jesus holding the cross of St. George. Many soldiers from Ripon killed during the First World War would have been about 18; therefore Jesus is shown as the same age

The monkey seat is where the Mayor sits. When the seats were being carved, the carver put a monkey here because he though the Mayor was corrupt. A few years later, the carver became Mayor himself.
