Kent Hoffman's conversations

Those 3 bladed props on the A models, made them WAY louder, than the later model C-130's!

macht wie immer eine gute Figur/L/

It is hard to believe I do not remember a Vespa putt-putting around the camp. I am going to communicate with my assistant in those days and see if he remembers it. It was, however, a while back!

From the pinned map, it looks like you were close to the area where Chaplain Williams was Chaplain of one of the Infantry Battalions. I had also known him in Germany in the early 1960's at 1st. Bde., 3d. Armored Div. There at Pleiku he had found an old bell and had it mounted on a tower in front of the "chapel" tent of the battalion.

Dan, I was the Field Director of the American Red Cross at the Brigade. Early in 1967 I was then assigned to Phan Rang AB, and for my last month at 25th. Inf Div Hq at CuChi. Things improved after that, as I was assigned to Munich, Germany. We were Summer tourists at Vail and Copper Mountain. We never went there in the winter but went there yearly for about 11 years. Love the mountains in Summer!

Landed here in August 1966 in a C130, flying in to set up company operations just West of the AB, we were on the perimeter of 3rd of 25th Infantry Div and since we were given the perimeter, we also were assigned as guards. Funny, Intelligence Unit pulling guard for the Infantry.

When we arrived in Pleiku August 1966, we set up camp just East of 25th Infantry Div. Our outfit was called 330th Radio Research Company. We were actually 330th Army Security Agency shipping in from Fort Wolters Texas. We traveled incountry by troop carrier aboard USS Gaffey. Landed at Qui Nhon and came to Pleiku via C130's. I was stationed here 1966 to 67, came home for 30 days then came back and was transferred from Pleiku to Phu Bai where I stayed until March 1968. Lived through Tet Offensive by keeping my head down in the trenches surrounding our operations area of 8THRRFS.

Yes, Elvis arrived after my departure. I believe he was on Company A, just across the street. He is remembered in Bad Nauheim with a platz named after him.

22 years later The Who, Cheap Trick, AC/DC and Scorpions played here for an all day concert. Rock and Roll Uber Alles!!!!!!!
