Henry Wirz was villified by a blood thirsty and vengeful United States after hostilities ceased. Prison camps in the north were no better than Camp Sumter. The north had the means to provide much better treatment for their pows... they just didn't. Many don't understand that prisons like Elmira were as bad as Andersonville. Henry Wirz was wrongfully convicted and then murdered.

From childhood until now the pivet point to say "we're home". We knew when we came to this point and made that right turn we were on the road that took us home again. It is said you can never go home again, with places kept, cherished and preserved like this you will never leave home behind. There used to be a Coke machine outside the front door with glass bottles and a bottle opener on the side. There were pickle barrels, pickled eggs, sacks of flour and penny candy. I came here when I very little until school age then every summer, holidays and I brought my children to this part of the history of their roots. My grandparents' home is down to the end/midpoint of Whitepoint Rd. It did't hav name then it was a route number, before that it was just "down Jenkinvile". They are buried at Ebeneza Baptist Church and I have many relaives still living down back. My grandfather's last friend/companion was the last decendent of the slave owners of the plantation at the very end of Whitepoint Rd. When the new store across the street came, I was so upset that the Hangout would be destroyed. Thank Good for everyone that decided it should stay. My home is in Germany now and I am working in Hawaii (military) I can ALWAYS come back "down home" and Hangout.
