JurekAO's conversations

The yellow house on the right side, we locally call "the pregnant house", as the foundation almost collapsed and formed a significant bulge. It is renovated and in fine shape today.

This is one of the very old streets in Aalborg. The street was established around 1660 to 1690. Many of the old Empire-style houses are 2-300 years old. The street as a whole gives a very good picture of streets from that time. The block was established around 1650 with stables for the many horses, later small houses were built for the lower class citizens. Follewed by merchand shops and handycraft shops. From 1779 also the soldiers were accomodated here and the area was very filthy and unhealthy. This continued until after the second WW. Where a hard renovation of the city area wwas initiated. In 1961 a famous local architect initiated renovation and preservation of the street and surrounding houses to keep it as a whole street. Today many of the houses only has 1-3 inhabitants and they cost the same as a good apartment anywhere else in the city.

The street is Nytorv. The square is called Gabels Torv. The building has a sign: "Vestre Landsret". This is not the actual court, only a local office.

All law and justice cases start in the "Byretten", that is the first court level, there are 24 in Denmark. These cases can be appealed to the "Landsretten", that is the second level courts. There are only 2 in Denmark; the Østre (Eastern country court) Landsret and the Vestre (Western country Court) Landsret.

Wow, great shot! Have a nice day. Greetings: Laci L+F

Tone, Mone, Petr and Bernd, I am very happy to see you all here again, admiring another of my Lake District pictures. Sadly, many villages around this area have been flooded in our heavy rains this month. A nice moment here though. Special thanks for your great awards.

Seasonal Greetings from Oldham, Herb
