Bizzy, in 78-79 you rode on either YFB-89,90, or 91. YFB-91 was my duty craft back in 70 and 71. All three of these LCU crafts were taken out of service and sunk as tagets in the late 80's. Oh how the Base has changed since back then. We were confined to the base most of the time when I was there do to security reasons and at one point the base was seperate from the Navy and the Marines because we just couldn't get along Go Figure.
When I was there in 08-09, it was no longer a "BOQ". It was for E-7 and above and their civilian equivalent. I had that view at first, but it got boring and moved to the parking lot side. My neighbor and I sat out on the balcony and harrassed the people coming and going...loads of fun!!!! LOOK..MONEY!!!
This stretch of cliff/beach? was a great source of "bleeding teeth", purpura, limpets and top shells...at least in the mid '60's (iguana house didn't exist then)

Saw lots of iguanas along this stretch of beach in the mid '60s.
We built a bridge over this river in the mid 60's, and caught tarpon from the bridge.
This was my favorite sharkfree snorkeling pool in mid '60's...and yes, quite a few large cudas would hang out outside of the protective rocks.
I've been there a thousand times, Guantanamo is beautiful! A paradise before 2001!!!
