Thanks you for your comments. Can you see the Bumi Hills Lodge from the lake if you know where to look?

Hi zhsv

Thanks for your kind comments. Thalia Game Reserve has a range of quite extreme topography from an elevated and craggy wooded escarpment (in the picture), grassy plains and deep vegetated valleys running down to the Phongola River. Have a great Christmas in Belarus. I guess you are now into heavy snow or expecting it shortly, while we move towards a hot summer in South Africa. Best wishes John

Nice shot!

The size of these super sized diesel burning "jumbo jet engines" is incredible!

Without the Ankerlig peaking power plant and the similar Gourikwa plant at Mossel Bay, SA's grid would have crashed entirely.

Best wishes,

John

It's sad that this shop Susan Hughes is no longer there

We did an event in Fourways this weekend and drove past this impressive "house" on our way to our accommodation. We were so intrigued and determined to find our who lives there, but not even the guard at our lodge knew. When I looked into the matter, I also read on the Mail and Guardian website that Sisa Ngebulana owns a R55-million house in Chartwell, which boasts a nine-hole golf course... So wondering now, is it a home or a hotel...

This photo was indeed taken in an old quarry that was probably used by the original constructors of Darlington Dam. The location on the satelite photo is correct. Jansenville was chosen by Panoramio. It is 54 km to the North west of the dam and upstream from it. The nearest town is Kirkwood which is 34km ( as the crow flies ) downstream of the dam. Kirkwood is a prosperous citrus growing area that benefits from irrigation water indirectly from this dam.
