The Heipang airport serves only the domestic market, although there is talk of ultimately turning it into an international airport. The nearest major city, Jos, is the capital of Plateau State, and is just about 20 minutes drive away. An inland container port is being built near the airport, and the road linking Heipang and Jos is under re-construction. The almost featureless topography around the airport gives the area some scenic beauty. Heipang is also a sub-station of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, though for years now no train has passed through the station.
