Carole Harper's Research found a write up from the Atlanta Journal Sunday Magazine (January 15, 1950) about the ferries on the Chattahoochee. Henry Brock was telling about his childhood on the ferry and he says his father, Joe Brock, was the one- armed ferryman known up and down the river. The year he bought his farm and started operating the ferry was 1901.

Based personal research and a report by: Harold Bush-Brown, District Officer - HABS circa 12/01/1936. This Campbell County Courthouse was erected circa 1828 which replaced a previous wood building. The building was dismantled by Mr. Robert Cook circa 1914. The materials were used to construct a barn on his farm. This photo was in possession of DR. J.T. Henley a Dentist residing in College Park, GA. The original print which was surrounded by a gold frame, The image of the frame has been removed and all writing removed to preserve the original image for all to enjoy. Note: The county seat moved to Fairburn GA circa 1870 leaving this courthouse unoccupied for 20 years. There were brief occupation by merchants using the building as a store. The newer Fairburn Courthouse continues to stand today , 2009

The original building known as Ferguson's Merchants Mills was a water powered saw mill and grist mill only. It was burned on July 9, 1864 by elements of the Illinois and Kentucky Cavalry because Angus Ferguson had supplied materials to build the New Manchester textile mill about a mile down stream. The building in the photograph was built after the Civil War by Ferguson and former slaves of the area who were friendly to Angus Ferguson, because he had treated slaves well prior to the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation. After Ferguson’s death, the property was purchased by a man named Austell who turned it into the first electric power plant in the area and supplied electricity to the City of Austell. Note the electric power polls on the left side of the building going up the hill. This building remained until the early 1930’s. Nothing remains except areas where the damn joined the east side of Sweetwater Creek.

This is a movie set that was constructed at this location only for the filming of Five Killers, a movie set to release in 2010. Stars include: Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, and Tom Seleck. Filming took place May - June of 2009. All of the Structures you see here were completely removed Mid June 2009. An Action Scene where a Gold Pontiac Trans-Am (79-81) Is flipped then crushed by a big Tractor. Ashton Kutcher's Character (Spence) is a Contractor on this site. I was lucky enough to play as an extra on one of the Scenes shot here.

This is an Original Campbellton Georgia Home, Built in the 1830s It Faced Old Campbellton Fairburn Road which crossed the Chattahoochee via Ferry. Around 1958 the Old road was closed and a new road was cut behind the home going to the new Chattahoochee Bridge. Most will know the home viewed from the back from Charlie's Store. This Home was featured in the 1990 Movie "Blood Salvage". Not the best movie but you get to see a lot of the house. The house burned around 2004 and looking at the construction, Huge Chestnut beams were slotted and wooden pegged together.
