Alan Burton's conversations

Alan Burton said:

The Almshouses are perhaps more attractive than The Ship. Couldn't face Sunday Roast at The Ship which looked awful and was being served off of a hostess trolley in the back passage. Then we discovered the Bangladesh Restaurant which was totally brilliant - except for the architecture which isn't even 'brutalism'.

At this point the Cyclepath joins the road where a widened pavement is provided to the bridge over the Clyst at The Bridge Pub. Thence onwards to Topsham. Note: Bridge VERY VERY narrow and due to be supplemented by a purpose built pedestrian and cycle facility. This photo taken looking East as if rejoining on a Southbound journey down the cyclepath.

This view is the only one in this section taken facing South. View is where the Cyclepath joins Riverfront / Station Road at Exton. Cyclepath continues East to the "Puffing Billy" where you turn left and continue straight along Exton Lane and into Green Lane Northbound until exiting the developed area and confronted with a juction where both roads are optimistically signed as "PRIVATE ROAD" take the left hand one. - (Follow Street View until next image of the "PRIVATE ROAD" sign)

There is a modest Cyclepath route sign just before this junction which is a trifle ambiguous. At the fork BOTH roads say they are "PRIVATE" - DO NOT BE DETERRED. Take the left fork (shown) to CATKINS.

Turn right here by the new gate (open in this image) and the dedicated path restarts.

This is the start of the short section which goes alongside the railway. Initially rising above the track bed then dropping well below on approach to The River Clyst.

Shortly past this small bridge the path turns right and runs along the River Clyst and alongside a Wharf which used to carry a branch line.
