1500 Level Portal, Holden Mine. The mine is currently undergoing analysis to determine the best way to treat acid mine runoff. When it closed in 1957, the mine had over 50 miles of underground workings, and nearly one mile of vertical extent. The Holden Mine was once the largest underground copper mine in the United States. The mine is closed to the public.

Holden Mill, now partly disassembed. Ore from the mine was processed, and ore concentrates shipped first by truck down Railroad Creek to Lucerne. At Lucerne, ore was loaded on a barge destined for Chelan, where it was loaded onto rail cars for shipment to the Tacoma Smelter.

Harvestmen, in a Mount St. Helens cave. These Opiliones are one of over 200 species found in North America. Most lay eggs in the fall and die, but many migrate into Northwest caves where they overwinter. At times thick mats of harvestmen can be found on cave ceilings where they bunch together with leggs intertwined. Most are thought to live about one year.
