It's actually a leopard. The Aberdeen coat of arms has two leopards holding the shield. Locally, because these particular statuettes were put in place during the time of a Lord Provost (the Scots equivalent of a Lord Mayor) named Kelly, they are known colloquially as "Kelly's Cats".
