This is not and never was a mineshaft but the original pond/reservoir for the steam powered engine house which stood nearer the railway line.
The engine hauled the wagons up an old incline from the Hollins mine 400ft below to the original Kilns.

The tunnel you are referring to is Drewton which is about 500 meters to the east of this one.

Can you have a look at the title of the image please. There is no such place as Spurnsea Point. The location also appears to be Easington, East Riding of Yorkshire.

My father was from Hull Gillet St, and he dived into the St.Andrews Dock,when he was 17 years old,5th September 1938 and saved the life of a child who had fallen in. He was awarded a velum parchment by the Royal Humane Society. This was lost during the war. He mentioned this to my son, who was about 11 at the time, who asked me was this tale true or just a story, I coudnt comment as I'd never heard it. He looked on the internet , and made a few contacts, we presented him with a copy of the scrole at his 80th birthday party in the year 2000. We have that framed and in our home, it will go to my son who discovered the fact that it was a true story.
