Hello Medlam ;>) I don't wish to appear pedantic but this sun-dial is not on the Abbey..It is in-fact on the south west wall of Saint Mary's parish church as your place marker correctly shows!

This monument commemorates the 1849 cholera outbreak in Hull. The outbreak killed over 1500 citizens of Hull in a few weeks in the fall of 1849. Most deaths occurring in the poorer districts of the city. The city's cemetery could not cope with the deaths and massive pit was dug to bury the bodies. The cholera mound is a short distance away from this plinth.

This is Eastburn Beck, near Driffield. It is the start of the River Hull. That is the same mucky brown water that flows through Hull!
