Oh, thanks for your extensive hymn to the humility, Richard.
I'm old enough to know such moments very well. Sometimes I'm sitting on the balcony of my neighbor (an amateur astronomer) and we look through his telescope out there deep in the space. In such moments you are aware that we are only a puff of nothing in the infinity of the universe.
In 10, 20, for sure in 50 years Panoramio will be gone and in another 100'000 years the whole mankind maybe also, and maybe a popular race of fruit fly or a mutated sort of rat will rule the world; whe don't know. Such thoughts sometimes brings us back to the basics, and I feel very happy to be born in a corner of the world where I have (still) the choice what I'm eating, what I'm doing. A lot of others don't. And we should make an effort to allow this all of us; the world is too small and the time is too short to waste resources for fighting against each other.
