On 3 October is the celebration of the relief of Leiden after months of siege by the Spanish in 1574. After the invasion planned by Willem van Oranje, the hugry peopleof Leiden got herring and white bread. Nowadays it is a tradition that reminds to the freedom of the city and her people, freedom of religion and right to food.
