Now Rhea was married to Kronos. They had had 5 children already but Kronos had developed a bad habit and ate them all. So Rhea hid in a cave and bore Zeus here and thereby hangs a tale.

Visible is the second palace, the first being destroyed by an earthquake. The second palace dates from c.1650BC and the picture shows the grand staircase and the entrance to the temple. Compared to Knossos it has not been fancifully restored with chunks of concrete and is less popular as a result.
