Thanks again. This was an old transparency. By suppressing low contrast details it avoided the worst of the dust and scratches and make it a bit more atmospheric.

Built between 1456-1486 by Thomas Bourchier, Archbishop of Canterbury. 1538 'bought' by Henry VIII from Thomas Cranmer. Passed on to the Sackville family by Queen Elizabeth I. I was told firmly it is called Knole, not palace, house or anything, just Knole.
