This was an incredible experience, going by float plane out of Ketchikan out into the Misty Fjords wilderness and landing in a remote cove far from civilization. Pure solitude and quiet, and perhaps the freshest air one can breathe anywhere on the planet.

The drive out the Glenn Highway towards the Matanuska Glacier affords some of the most scenic series of mountain views anywhere. The Chugach Range to the south (shown) retains snow all year most years, and the glacial braiding of the Matanuska River as you draw closer to the glacier itself is impressive.
This beach is next to Point Arena, the westernmost point of the contiguous United States (even though it is hundreds of miles north of Los Angeles, it is actually closer to Hawaii). The trans-Pacific telephone cables are terminated at a nearby facility. the Point Arena lighthouse is visible here.

I visited the re-opened Lube Room last week. It is nearly exactly like it always was. Good to hear that the hotel is being renovated as well (the porch roofing material is now metal, not cedar shake), and as much as I like Donna and Tommy up at nearby Camp Connell, I did like the convenience ot being able to walk to the small market (Tolferson's) for incidental items, newspapers, etc. I hope that can re-open as well!
