To the northeast (upstream) of this shot, there's a deeper, more sheer-walled section of canyon. The petroglyphs are in that stretch.
My favorite place on Earth.
To reply to the previous comment from 2011: a team of 13 men using a hydraulic jack retrieved the arm a month or two after his accident.

Prehistoric. Built by the Fremont people who were gone from the canyon by 1276 AD. It is almost a perfect circle being 16 to 17 feet in diameter, double walled dry-laid masonry.

Obviously the ancient Indians wanted to leave their marks too but if you're going to leave your own mark then do it somewhere else. Don't just do block lettering of your name right across the ancient glyphs. So tragic.
