My grandfather and grandmother were aboard the X-1 on 3 March 1942, with two of their three children. My grandmother and the two boys were killed, my grandfather survived.
My father heard the news about his family after the war and he has been telling me this story for more than forty years, from the moment that I could listen until his death.

Every bridge in the region was destroyed by Cyclone Guba in November 2009. Temporary bridges and fords are barely adequate to get the seeds to Popondetta for processing. However, it seems these have become permanent after most of the cyclone relief aid money donated by various countries is alleged to have disappeared into local politicians' bank accounts.
