It's an easy walk from Kebara to Kanandara, then a tough one up to Hagutawa and Misima, but it's worth every huff and puff for the amazing views of the valley. The route follows an old WW2 track that was one of the many making up what later became known as the Kokoda Track. There's a Homestay facility at nearby Misima.

Every bridge in the region was destroyed by Cyclone Guba in November 2009. Temporary bridges and fords are barely adequate to get the seeds to Popondetta for processing. However, it seems these have become permanent after most of the cyclone relief aid money donated by various countries is alleged to have disappeared into local politicians' bank accounts.

Thank you Bonnie for letting me know that this photo is so important to you. It was such a tragic event that even now, almost 70 years later, I feel anger and sadness about such an appalling event. I will return to Broome some day, and when I do I will revisit that wreck and place a flower near it for your grandmother.
