This is a very cool place, if you get to visit the area this is a worthwhile set of ruins, its off the beaten tourist path,is you are lucky it will be just you there in the raw jungle. Its amazing I was there oct09 its is a great place, we had a marvelous time,

This is not the monastery (abbey) but the monks fishing cabin :) They used to sit inside, next to the fireplace, and lower a net through the trapdoor just waiting for the fish to swim in.
And the original abbey was founded in the 7th century by Saint Feichin, but has been rebuilt 2 times since, first by Turlach O'Connor at around 1135, and later in the early 13th century after being destroyed again by the Norman William the Burgh in 1203.
