See the rocky headland at the far end of the bay.. With a white sheet on my head. Mask & Snorkel I "landed" on the main beach (1972)saying "Stambul" 3 times. Shaking heads. Finally one boy pointed way out beyond the island saying "Stambul". I sighed loudly. Then returned to the water. I swam past the headland again. When I was out of sight I returned to the beach to tales of the Turk who had lost his way to Istanbul..Ha Ha Ha

I read.... There are no grey seals in the Med. They obviously didn't look here! I used to try to get a female to "stay" when I came looking here. But she always left quickly. I "camped" for months at a time in Gerolomin during the 1970's They called me "The Sherrif". Anyone remember?

I was spearfishing here in 1973. I dived to about 80feet and laid at the edge of an underwater cliff. 3 fish came "looking" All way over 20lbs. The "record" for this fish is 8lbs.

In 1971-76 I would spearfish here and get lots of fish called locally "German fish". So called because they were first seen around the time of the German occupation. The Natural History Museum in London had no knowledge of this fish. I tried often to get them "involved". No go. However! this year 2011 I finally managed to get them to co-operate. Result? They acknowledge that this fish comes to this place from the Atlantic in late summer. It only took 40years!!

In 1966 this road was a complete country track. I know..... I was one of the shift commanders building that amazing airstrip to the right of the road. And ... the village was Ban Kok Talat then.
