Near Monterey you will find the "17 mile drive". A fantastic coastal drive including beaches and this highlight, bird rock. This rocky outcrop is a few hundred feet from the shore and is home to many birds and sea lions.

The Monterey area is famous for its kelp forests in the sea. Of course the aquarium has a suitable tall tank full of kelp and the marine life that goes with it including Leopard Shark, Sardine and Rockfish.
