I am a prolific shutter-bug. My camera (Canon 400D) is thought to be grafted to my right hand. I have a wide interest in things mechanical (be they ships, planes, trucks or even trains). I live on the West Coast of the South Island were, with world class scenery to point my camera at, I hope to bring this part of the world to the Panoramio community.

This is the Main Line to JNL Siding points lever. It is secured (for the ML) with two separate locks. It is still in daily use. The booth once contained a line phone so that who ever was shunting could communicate with Train Control for instructions. The box on top of the post contains the manual control for the level crossing. P.S., nice shot.

If you were to look from the same point you would find this is (as of Feb 2012) now bare land. Between earthquakes and wrecking ball, the site has been wiped clean.

I was the last person to drive this crane before the boilers were decommissioned. I was, at the time, her sister ship Hikitia's crane driver. Hikitia remains one of the worlds last steam driven floating cranes in revenue service.

I think I've got it right. Using the museum and the white house on the cliff, leads either to the breakwater or you were on a vessel. I like the pic though, sunlight on the roofs works well. :-)

Errrr...SNAP. Judging by the date up-loaded, we must have just missed each other(by a week or so)

Nice shot. I'm hoping to do the SOL (Stratford - Okahukura line) late Feb 2012. Using the forgotten highway, I'm going to spend a couple of days shooting whatever is left.

Nice shot and relatively rare as the crane is facing backwards. Judging by the activity on deck, she's just 'letting go' to do some work elsewhere in the harbor.
