I was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood for basic training in 1973. Looks like things have changed quite a bit since then. There is however one thing that remains the same, lots of red brick.

Hello jerrykap! I was in the tower on the ocean when all hell broke loose on January 31, 1968. I still have a piece of shrapnal that came from the ammo dump. Several rockets fell short, one hit but did not explode and another hit MAG16 next door. That was probably the worse night of my life up to that point. The best morning I ever saw was us still standing when the sun came up! I was in the USN and was responsible for the security of the fuel farm that night. Alive and well in Waterford michigan ohrings@aol.com

Hey guys. I was assigned to the 22nd replacement from Dec '70 to Dec '71. I think I remember Bob Archer as the person who greeted the new arrivals. I also have a hard time remembering the names of the guys I served with.

vnvetlester said: Hello Bill,Thanks for the comments on my photo's.I was looking at the Hornet and thought about the tour I went on of the Yorktown at Charleston,Sc.They are some big ships. You mentioned the tunnel near Da Nang, you can view it good on google earth.I would like to go and see that myself.Look how much Chu Lai where I was stationed has changed. There are oil refineries and factory's everywhere. Bill Cook replies: Chu Lai has no VN meaning. It's Chinese for Krulak, the general who thought that swamp was a good place for a base. We do business with a shop in Saigon. Excellent product, good price. And liked the food there too.

Larryusaf said: Most of the apes where on monkey mountain and I do remember them. I worked the airfield 3 months before and after phu bai. I also went on 2 or 3 convoys from phu bai to danang and back. I am thinking about in a year or two going back to viet nam on a vacation. Bill Cook replies: These were big, like chimpanzees, not little monkeys. Did the same convoys. Understand Hai Van Pass is now a tunnel. Been to Saigon on business, not yet back to I Corps. Hue is on the bucket list.
