vnvetlester's conversations

Thanks! Sorry it took me so long to respond, schoolwork can get the best of me for quite a while sometimes. Wise is a cool little town, though I think for me it holds special significance since it is one of the towns I visited on my first solo road trip. And yes, traveling all the back roads I get a chance to travel is a hobby of mine! I Google mapped Mount Sterling, I see that's right off of I-64. I've driven out 64 to Louisville and St. Louis quite a few times now, so apparently I've driven close to where you and your wife live. Maybe next time I'm out that way I'll stop by and visit. Sometime when I have a little more time (unfortunately not this morning due to an exam coming up) I'm going to have to check out all your photos from Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky is one of the places I've been wanting to explore more, though driving in these mountains is not easy on the gas bill. Hopefully I'll get a chance to after I graduate this summer. Hope everything is going well over in Kentucky. -Malcolm

The old Inn and Motel at Wise.

Old Vickers house.

New coal fired power plant in Virginia City near Saint Paul,Va.

Nice picture of the Kentucky backcountry! I've wanted to do more driving in Kentucky. And living in southwestern Virginia, one might think that's easy. But it takes a long time and a lot of gas money to get out to eastern Kentucky. Hopefully one day I'll have an income that will allow me some more travel in Kentucky, it's nice out there. Malcolm

Thanks for that background fact vnvetlester. It's always nice to hear facts about the places I've been by people who are familiar with the area and its history. -Malcolm

I spent a lot of " short time " along this beach in 1968-69. 123rd Av Bn - Wes Martin

I wrote an article about this project for the batalion newsletter which was picked up by Stars & Stripes and still have a copy. I will try to scan and post it. Mike Shaw "C" Company / 3rd Platoon
