Land masses around the River Wear & Sunderland inc. South Hylton, were part of the local industries for many, many years. Alas non exist today, Nov 2011.

Industries included, Farming, Salt, Coal, Lime, Alum, Copperas, Glass, Rope, Pottery, Paper, Quarries, Ship Building & Repair, Forges and not forgetting Ferry Crossings.
