I spent many a happy time with my cousin in Southwell. I remember the "Cathedral" the Park and a boy who played I think drums although I may be wrong, in a band...... Sadly both my aunt and uncle have now passed and I have lost contact with my cousin...... The Saracen has a great history .........

Cobbs Engine House was erected around 1831 (by Sir Horace St.Paul) to extract water from Pit 3 of the Windmill End Colliery (but later served a wider area) until pumping finally ceased in 1928. The Newcomen engine it housed was then removed from the site and transferred to the Henry Ford Museum, Michegan, USA. 1,600,000 litres of water were pumped from the mines into the nearby canal system daily.
