Photography has been a passion of mine for years. I love traveling taking photos that capturing the beauty and the amotion of the world we live in. Terry Cosgrave, 46, is a Connecticut native, born in Greenwich and reared by a successful, self-taught businessman father and a practical-minded, “family-comes-first,” Scottish mother. He had all the hopes and dreams of any young boy until he lost his mother at the tender age of 19, and later, his older sister Tracy. The heartache, unbearable and difficult for many, transformed Terry’s vision and outlook with a genuine understanding and appreciation for the fragility of life. As he struggled through and accepted those experiences, Terry began to see things through a filter unlike any of his peers. He has been able to travel the world: from his mother’s homeland in Scotland, to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to the Caribbean and further on to the islands in the South Pacific. In Jamaica, he recalls the jagged contrasts between rawness and beauty. As he walked through the opulence of Montego Bay and then along the darkened streets of Kingston, he was able to see, feel and experience the man-created polar differences of our own humanity come together and unite. To Terry, watching a little blond boy jump in an out of a group of round Jamaican women in a crowded marketplace spoke volumes to him: The women and the little boy – unencumbered by racial and socioeconomic mores – awed him on how simple – and fragile – our lives could become. This is what Terry wants to capture. He couples his mother’s strong Celtic spirituality, pragmatism -- and sharp wit – with his open mind and worldly experiences. Terry’s love of photography – and his transcendental eye – allows for a visual modality that brings the divinity of life, love, innocence and nature together. Capturing these senses on film is his passion. Seeing the absolute divinity in the so-called ordinary world – whether it be below the surface of the water, in the regal stare of a swan, or even in the simplicity of a bubble – is Terry’s forte. Terry resides in Westport, CT, and his work can be found in many Westport private homes, businesses and juried art shows. Along with The Bubblescapes, Terry is known for his local area photography and for bringing life, love and light to local businesses with shots of his beloved town. In addition to his local work, Terry is completing a photo essay project on the Saugatuck swans. During the warmer months or when they travel abroad, Terry and his father, Gary, share their passion for underwater photography. “I believe in God, only I call it Nature.” --- Frank Lloyd Wright Bubblescapes TM ###
