I was born in Nelspruit in 1950 but grew up in Durban by the sea where I went to George Campbell school till 1969. On leaving school I entered the milling industry and worked four years for Union Flour Mills in Umbilo. I was then transferred to Premiers mill in Isando outside Johannesburg where I stayed for just 4 months before resigning and heading for Switzerland where I put myself through the Swiss Milling School in St Gallen. Before I could attend the SMS I had to learn German as all the tuition was then given in German. For the months of May through August I had the time of my life learning the language, meeting new friends and seeing that most beautiful part of Germany, Franken. I was at the Goethe Institute in Rothenburg ob der Taube which is an ancient walled town outside Wurzburg. After graduating I toured Norway with my mom and then went through Paris to England. There I took a bus from London to Plymouth, up to Inverness and back to London all in two weeks. On returning home I put my nose to the grindstone and have been in this industry ever since. In 1977 my life changed when I realised that Jesus is who He said He is and I accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour. Life still has its ups and downs but it is so good to know that there is someone who cares about me and loves me unconditionally. As John Elliot said, He is no fool who gives up that which he cannot keep to get that which he cannot loose.

What a lovely picture of the old mill and bridge. It does make the heart a little sore when I see what my family built in a heap. I recall my grandfather recieving the news of it gone and how I watched him sob over his old home. Still makes me sad. I have however written a book on the history behind Caversham with all the information on the building of it and the family. It is called The History Behind Caverham, Natal. ISBN 978-0-473-12775-6. Available from myself or Caversham as from the end of November 2007. Jacqueline -oldoaks@slingshot.co.nz
