JPLyrenmann's conversations

Actually, this is what was known as a stamping machine, not a milling machine. This machine was used to crush the rock as it came out of the mine. The copper was embedded in the rock. The rock had to be crushed to get to the copper. The process is very similar to today's concrete crushing, used to re-cycle concrete into usable gravel. These machines ran 24/7/365 back in the day, and was known to be heard, as well as felt, crushing rock for miles away. There are several of these machines and they stand from ground level about 50 - 60 feet in the air....very ominous looking today!
