The coll of Langglupdalen is passed on the winterroute from Rondvassbu to Bjornhollia. This unmarked route is challenging even in good weather, due to distance and exhausting, powdery snow between the shrub in the lower part of the valley. The ascent of the coll from the west side is possible without skins by following the summerroute. The upper part of the east side consist of a gradually descending slope with conditions for downhill skiing. When the river is reached stick to the summerroute to avoid the steep, icy, tricky banks of the river running through the valley. After passage of the bridge leading to the south side of the valley, follow the marked path along the river wich leads through the shrub, hoping someone is in front of you... It is not advised to continue the summerroute on the southside of the valley, as avalanches occur under certain conditions. When the path between Gammelsaetra and Gammelgarden is reached, head south to Myldingsgjelet. The ascent to Myldingsgjelet (just south of the bridge in this path) is only a short climb, but under certain conditions it can be dangerous, as heavy snowfall turns the path in to a steep slope. On Myldingsgjelet, follow the path, wich merges with the summerroute further south. Stick to the summerroute as the powdery snow in the shrub arround Bjornhollia will give you another challenge!

The winterroute between Skogadalsboen and Olavsbu can be challenging. Total ascent is 700 meter, the steepest part found at Tungehaugane in the lower part of Storutledalen. The second part, but less steep, can be found in the ascent to Raudalen.

The winterroute between Bjornhollia and Eldabu should only be attempted in fine weatherconditions and good visibility, as there is no wintermarking. In general follow the summermarks (steinmanner) and keep uphil to avoid the steep banks of the river that runs into Skjerdalen, heading south to Blakollen until you reach the 1200 meter line. Follow this altitude into Steindalen. Halfway, just north of Fremre Vulutjonna lake, emergency shelter can be found in an unmanned hut which provide bunks and a stove (no food). Continu into Djupbekken where the route merges with the Troll-Loypa. Eldabu is clearly seen in good visibilty from Djupbekken. Don't try to cross directly from Djupbekken, as you will find steep banks of river Storeldaa on your way. Follow the Troll-Loypa until you reach the marked diversion to the hut. Stick to the route in the dark as the hut is obscured by trees and shrub.

Very nice photo!

This is actually the Rio grande Gorge, up stream from Pilar. Taken near Taos Junction Bridge.

Hoi Walter,

Ik heb de foto nageschilderd. Is natuurlijk niet zo mooi als't origineel, maar kijk maar op www.bulero.nl (bij atelier en dan schilderijen)

Groeten Hennie
