The fairy tern was the most enchanting bird on the atoll! Often, they would fly with in feet over the top of my head in pairs. One of the most incredible experiences I had while out and about walking the atoll! A VERY beautiful bird and angelic for sure!
The Nature Conservancy now owns Palmyra. You can go by sail boat but can only stay for a week or so. (a permit is required) If your invited as an employee, you can go but that requires a commitment of 4-6 months. "Donors" go fairly often but pay for the trip and often give a monetary gift to TNC. The chartered air flight from Honolulu, HI cost around $2,500/hr., paid by the TNC Palmyra program.

Its true...I recommend it strongly, especially Caracoles Cafe de Paris. They have latin music, good rums and good service....You'll love it.
