There is a lot of pre-Columbine sites throughout Mexico that have not been excavated. Authorities spend their budgets on the ones that have the most promise.
However, this site is currently badly damaged. A huge hole was dug up in the middle of the main pyramid by looters as well as the burial sites. I have visited the site since the late 80s and was not like that. Shame on them!
The community decided long ago to use log rafts and thus prohibit the use of motorized watercrafts, eliminating any water, air or noise contamination and keeping this national park in pristine conditions for decades to come.
