The National Gallery of Art was created in 1937. The building depicted is the West Building of the National Gallery of Art was completed in 1941. The term "West Building," rather than "West Wing," became applicable after the East Building, designed by I.M. Pei and Associates, opened in 1978.

For any architect this is an interesting view. Ideed taken from a hotel window, this very oblique angle reveals the different planes of that not-so-flat facade. Obvious shifts of planes occur, a characteristic that most facade analyses and studies typically neglect to mention while exclusively focusing on the proportion of the projected elevation. The upper register is substantially recessed from the lower (older, mostly pre-Alberti) base.
Mt. Rainier was an amazing experience. And I was baffled by all the magnificent views the hike offered, not much more than one hour from the visitor center from Paradise.
