Legend has it that in early European settlement years, a Captain Brady, was being chased by locals on foot. Story goes that Captain Brady crossed the Cuyahoga River at the Standing Rock by leaping from riverbank to rock, to the other riverbank. Locals apparently were not willing to risk the leap. And that is how Brady became a symbol of courage, skill and cunning. If you have ever been there, you know the leap from either side to the top of Standing Rock is a substantial distance for a normal human making a leap. Perhaps the river has eroded the bank farther from the rock than in the eighteenth century.
