No, we didn't make it all the way up. We did not see any trails, so we just wandered and scrambled up the North East side until things did not look agreeable.

We did not even get to do the whole byway loop because there was still too much snow around that year.

Sunset at El Capitan State Beach

Yes, that is Catalina on the horizon. You can see just a bit of ocean beyond where Catalina dips lower at the Two Harbors area.

My brother lived in this house for 7-8 years. Many great memories here.

On the left, the San Gabriel Mountains are visible in the distance. At the center, the road to Butler Peak is visible in the foreground, Big Bear Lake visible in the distance. Mount San Gorgonio a bit to the right of center. On the right, Highway 18 "Rim of the World Highway" and Snow Valley Ski are are visible. At the horizon, Saddleback peak of the Santa Ana Mountains is visible.

I went to those lakes on a hiking trip in the early 1970's. It sure hasn't changed. Caught numerous Golden trout on worms that I took in with me. Biggest fish was about 9 inches. Nice pic. I have a couple pics I took. I might send them in to Google Earth and see if they post them.

Iceburg Lake on a rainy day (2005).
