Hi Swedeee, I'm sorry but I don't know what caused the damage to the house. It was taken on the 29 July 2007 when I was hiking in the area and noticed the house and thought it looked interesting. There is another photo I took more close up showing the damage in more detail but isn't really suitable for Panoramio, but if you let me have an e-mail address for you I can send it to you. The location is accurate, and on the OS map it is called Middle Hill House, OS national grid reference is SP110353.

I was lucky enough to visit Chichibu in 2001 when I worked for Toshiba in Fukaya, and remember the wonderful colours on the shrine, which your photograph shows brilliantly!
