As stated by "burnsgk", the white color in the distance is in fact, White Sands National Monument. I use to travel from El Paso to Alamogordo then up the road to our mountain property in High Rolls, which is about 2-3 miles past the only tunnell in New Mexico. My grandmother would stay at the house all summer and we would go up every weekend to check on her, bring supplies, irrigate the apple orchards, take care of the garden and have a good time. We did this for 10 years or until grandma's health started failing her. The best of both worlds, the desert and the forest!
