In the bottom third of the picture is a line of climbers heading for the pass.

From a 1986 ascent of Mount Challenger. Whatcom Peak is on the right; Mounts Baker and Shuksan in the distance.

The snowbridge under Larry appears at first glance to be a reasonable size, but in fact, Nearly all the snow in this picture is part of the bridge. The major fracture 20 feet behind Larry is where this huge slab broke from the top edge of the glacier to bridge the broad, seemingly bottomless moat between the ice and rock. It appeared to be exactly what we needed to reach the base of the Tower.

The trees were burned several years ago, ignited by lightning.

That's quite an investment in time and energy for an iffy result. Congratulations! Derek Franzen & I once dived down into the forest below the Eldorado Glacier to reduce exposure in a thunderstorm. After it broke, we could smell wood smoke for a while. We hiked up into the fog sitting on the glacier and tried to climb by map & compass, but came home empty-handed that time.

Wonderful work on a worthy subject. Thank you.

Best picture I've seen of that route. Ya done good.

What looks like a tower here is actually the end of a natural wall with an arch in it. See it from the side in this picture.

Under the boulder on the right you can see the improved, avalanche-resistant outhouse.

Beautifully abstract, with just the bush to anchor it to reality. I love it.
